The driver whose truck exploded and led to the death of at least ten people in Boksburg,Ekurhuleni is still alive.
This was confirmed by Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi on Saturday, 24 December following a visit to the scene of the accident.
TRUCK DRIVER IN BOKSBURG EXPLOSION SURVIVES
Lesufi and various MECs visited the scene. Lesufi confirmed that the driver is a South African and that he is amongst those who survived the gruesome explosion.
The truck which belongs to Infinite Transport caught fire and exploded after it got stuck under a bridge near the Tambo Memorial Hospital.
The South African previously reported that a total of ten people were killed, and multiple were injured, including six firefighters. It is believed there are children among the injured, according to emergency service, Emer-G-Med.

Meanwhile, multiple patients inside the Tambo Memorial Hospital were also injured in the blast and t he hospital itself was also damaged.
The hospital was then to the public while emergency services were still busy on the scene. The hospital’s ceiling collapsed and other parts of the facility have been cordoned off for safety reasons. Patients had to be evacuated.
Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko confirmed that 37 people including 24 patients and 13 staff members who were at the hospital’s A&E at the time of the incident sustained severe burns and have been diverted to neighbouring hospitals in Boksburg.
